Get in on the picture Mum

Bailey Lamburn photographer at Offspring Photography with her familyHappy Mother’s Day!

I’ve seen so many wonderful posts of the gifts and things your children have done to show you how much they appreciate you today. I’ve also spotted one or two ‘vintage’ pics from your family albums of you with your mums (nans, nannas, grandmothers) – fabulous!

I then realised that I don’t have many photos of me and my sister with my mum and I felt so sad. My parents have never been ones to pose in front of the camera – I know how ironic. Our holiday snaps include lots of me and my sister and hundreds of photos of beautiful buildings, scenery, lakes, the beach, all of which have changed very little in the 30-odd years of my life, but how we have changed!

That’s probably the reason why I love capturing families because I know how much the photos will be cherished in years to come – not just by the parents, but also the little people in the photo too.

I too am guilty of shying away from being in front of the lens (it’s probably hereditary) preferring to capture the moments between my children and my husband that I want to remember, and now I realise how selfish of me! So today I thought that needed to change. I need to capture memories that my children can look back on and say that’s how I remember all my family, including momma.

Are you guilty of the same?
